Christchurch Central Open Day success
1 November 2008
Close to seven thousand people enjoyed displays and events at the open day at Christchurch Central Police Station today until strong winds blew them into an early close before 3pm.
Hereford Street was closed off with displays about Police groups; CIB, Search and Rescue, Commercial Vehicle, the Booze bus, AOS, Police Negotiators, the Communications Centre, Community Policing, and Police dogs walked through the crowds. The queue to see into the cell block at one stage snaked down the ramp and around the front of building.
Running with the Laser speed camera was a great favourite with over 600 children who were very keen to see how fast they could run. Others tried to beat the PCT (fitness) challenge. Getting one's photo taken on the Police motor bikes was another popular display.
Fire and Ambulance had displays along with DARE,Blue Light, and Community Watch groups. A gold coin collection was taken up for Victim Support and Neighbourhood Support.
Many thanks to everyone who supported Police in this first open day in Christchurch.
