All it takes is a knock on the door and a chat, she says. Mrs Jones thinks knowing each other is fundamental to calling ourselves a society. "It's community – it's what people need to know. We need to know our neighbour in this day and age." Everybody wants to be involved. "We had some new residents from Christchurch. I'll go and welcome them with a bottle of wine and that's it." And it's those difficult or different situations that usually bring out the best in people to talk, share and help each other through. "I really enjoy it. When it snows, being friendly.
