New Kapiti Community Award

Sponsor Coastlands Shoppingtown

Junior Neighbourhood Support is a programme that aims to promote a sense of pride, safety and community spirit. The programme is a Neighbourhood Support initiative and works in partnership with Police, and local sponsor Coastlands. The programme rewards and recognises our younger members of the community who have assisted others or have done something that demonstrates community spirit and pride, or supports community awareness.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • To promote community awareness in children, their schools, homes and wider community
  • To reward positive initiatives and behaviours.

Information provided should include contact details for the person making the nomination, details of the nominated person, and why you are nominating them. If you do not wish to be publically identified please request this. Nominations can be left at the information desk at Coastlands, Kapiti Police Station or emailed to nsg.kapiti@paradise.net.nz.

The new Kapiti District monthly Award recipients will be selected by Kapiti Police and gift vouchers kindly donated by the Sponsor Coastlands Shoppingtown.

The first award presented on the 15th December by Community Constable Mike Tahere to winners were Alex Watt, Kayne McGlue and Cameron Elms.

86 year old Mrs Millar pictured with the boys, was watering her garden in November when she slipped and fell at home and was unable to get up.

Alex 12, Kayne 13 and Cameron also 13 helped her inside her home. The boys returned home and told their parents who then visited to ensure she was alright. Mrs Millar said I’ve never known kids their age to be so wonderfully concerned, kind and caring, they were marvellous” Certificates and vouchers were presented by Community Constable Mike Tahere “You always hear the negative stories about kids getting into trouble but seldom do you hear the good ones”.
