Visit to New PlymouthThere is that saying you should leave the best to last. Supt Bill Searle and I visited New Plymouth, which was my last district visit. I wish to congratulate Debbie and Raewyn, the committee and volunteers for the wonderful organisation they have set up and maintain. The Nakiwatch email system, relationships with Police and community are very effective. We certainly look forward to working with you in the future! First new board meetingThe newly elected board of NSNZ met at NZP College on 20 and 21 November. It was fantastic to have all but one district represented at the board room table. Remember the role of the delegates is to act as your representative and report back to you on NSNZ progress. Welcome to StratfordA warm welcome to Elizabeth Sunman who has started the neighbourhood support networks in sunny stratford! Please take the time to welcome Elizabeth. Training Day for MarlboroughNSNZ was able to host a training day for new volunteers from Blenheim. David Johnson from Safer Communities Marlborough is supporting the Neighbourhood Support networks in Blenheim and Picton. A big thank you to Ron Clare, Wellington to being such a capable trainer! We look forward to working with Marlborough District. New Auckland CommitteeOur thanks to Len Hill and the team from doing such a great job in maintaining NS networks throughout Auckland. A warm welcome to Kevin Hicks who has taken over the role as Chair, Auckland City. Like the rest of us Kevin's first task is to work with the council to try and secure some funding for co-ordination. Community Policing WorkshopOne year on with the consultation for community engagement with stakeholders and a lot has been achieved. The workshop was held at the Wellington airport to seek feedback on how Police have been doing so far. It was agreed that good consultation had taken place and communities were willing to engage with a more problems solving approach with Police and other government agencies. New National ManagerWe will be welcoming a new national manager to NSNZ in the new year. An official announcement on the appointment will be made after Christmas. We had a huge response and where pleased to be able to interview such high calibre applicants. I am sure you will enjoy making our new National Manager welcome! TrademarkIt's official; we as an organisation now own our own branding! So what does this mean! It means that in order to use NS branding and NS resources you need to be joined up as member of NSNZ. There is no cost for membership you just need to make sure your district is aware of your group. Check out the website to make sure you are in contact with your local district delegate. Stay Safe and take care on those roads over the festive season. Ingrid |
