Bulletin Board January - February 2008FROM THE DESK OF NEIGHBOURHOOD SUPPORT NATIONAL MANAGER Kia Ora and welcome to the 7th edition of Bulletin Board. In this edition we welcome Roger Eynon (pronounced eye non) as our new National Manager. You can contact Roger on roger.eynon@police.govt.nz, 04-470-7022 ddi or 027-249-4520 mobile. This Bulletin Board is designed to give you a brief up date of how things are progressing with Neighbourhood Support throughout the country. Please pass it on to your Neighbourhood Support contacts. An introduction to RogerI thought it best to give a very brief rundown on my history and what I hope to achieve in this position. I'm originally from Wirral, UK (close to Liverpool) and spent 21 years in finance with HSBC and then moved into community focused work in 2003 when I took up a position managing a community health centre (and designated parenting centre) in Liverpool. This was a diverse environment and we hosted services providing support to the community covering a huge range of needs. It was rewarding and represented both a very challenging and a very proud time of my life. In 2005 I joined Merseyside Police in an un-sworn position and was responsible for confiscating criminally derived assets from convicted criminals. I was also responsible for mentoring officers within my own home town division to ensure that a consistent approach was maintained when applying the legislation enabling confiscation proceedings to commence and have a successful outcome (from my point of view anyway!). It sounds almost glamorous but wasn't really - however, it was the community that benefited the most from my work. My wife, Suzanne and I came to New Zealand in October 2006 and have settled well in Wellington. I spent 9 months working for ACC and was responsible for coordinating support for clients who needed rehabilitation assistance following a traumatic event. During this period I became aware of the Neighbourhood Support, National Manager post and eventually was fortunate to be offered the position. Now I'm here and if I'm half as successful as Ingrid has been over her time in post, then that'll be something! I'm penning this short item on my second day and there is a lot to absorb and prepare for but I've been made very welcome by all and received an especially warm welcome from the Board at the last meeting. I look forward to working with you all and aim to have a degree of contact with all registered members of Neighbourhood Support in order to maintain a good level of progression and evolvement (so you may get a call from me as a sound bite!). I am committed to community focused projects and aim to promote a consistent message and operational direction for the organisation. I'm certain we are all striving for the same result. Roger A Thank You to Joy JohnsonI am sure you will join me in thanking Joy Johnson who was held the position of Acting Chair from April - November 2007 then elected to Chair at the November 07 AGM. Joy is also the NS Co-ordinator in Taupo and on the BOP board as well as the board of CPNZ. Joy's contract in Taupo has placed greater demands on her time so she has stepped aside from her National role. We would like to thank Joy very much for work and commitment to NS over the last year. New Acting Chair for NSNZPaul Miller, deputy chair of NSNZ has stepped into the role of Acting Chair until the organisation's AGM in November. First Board Meeting of 2008The NSNZ board meeting took place at the NZ Police College on 4&5 February. It was a full agenda with almost full participation from each of the districts. If you would like to know more about the work of the NSNZ board please contact your local delegate. Farewell to IngridWe wish to farewell Ingrid in her role of National Manager and welcome her back to the Board as its new Strategic Advisor. Ingrid has done an incredible amount of work in growing and developing the organisation into its current professional form. Ingrid is putting her skills to good use and is currently working with NHW Australasia in their set up, development stage. We wish her well! Thank you |
