Junior Neighbourhood Support

Junior Neighbourhood Support is a programme that aims to promote a sense of pride, safety and community spirit, in children and in the wider school community.

The programme works in partnership with Police, the Fire Service, with Civil Defence & Emergency Management, and local sponsors including many Rotary and service clubs. The Junior Neighbourhood Support Programme was named one of the top five international Rotary supported programmes in 2004.

The programme rewards and recognises primary and intermediate school students who have assisted others or have done something that demonstrates community spirit and pride, or supports community safety.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • To promote safety awareness in children, their schools, homes and wider community
  • To instil “Neighbourhood Support” values
  • To foster “Fire Wise” awareness
  • To foster “Civil Defence” awareness
  • To reward positive initiatives and behaviours
