Your community needs you!
7 February 2005

Neighbourhood Support and Community Patrols of New Zealand share similar aims and objectives around reducing crime and making our communities safer. Both organisations work closely with the Police. That relationship is shared in the publication of a new promotional poster that has just been distributed nation-wide.

Neighbourhood Support assists people to get to know each other better and learn how to keep themselves, their neighbours and their families safer.

Community patrollers drive around the community acting as extra “eyes and ears” for the Police, usually in their own car but in some places they use sponsored vehicles.

National Development Co-ordinator for Neighbourhood Support New Zealand, Yvonne Palmer, said it is important for people to know that there are things they can do to help themselves feel safer and more in control in their neighbourhood.

“Everyone has concerns about crime and a lot of crime is preventable. Instead of waiting for something to happen, everyone should explore the information provided by Neighbourhood Support and take the simple steps suggested.”
