Queen's Service Medal for Bay of Plenty stalwart

Bay of Plenty Neighbourhood Support stalwart Jan Owen has received a Queen's Service Medal for her services to the community, in particular crime prevention and support for victims of crime.

Better known in Rotorua as the driving force behind Neighbourhood Support, Mrs Owen began her community service career with victim support in West Auckland, moving to Rotorua 16 years ago and continuing her victim support work.

Mrs Owen was somewhat embarrassed and bewildered to receive this reward. She says that if people want to part of a safer community they can by getting involved in an organisation like Neighbourhood Support.
